POWDER POULTICE SUDATION
(PODI KIZHI)
Choorna Pinda Swedam, also known as Choornapinda Swedana, is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that involves the application of herbal powder boluses to the body. In this therapy, a mixture of medicinal herbs, powders, and oils is tied into cloth bundles, which are then heated and used to massage the body. The boluses are gently pressed, rubbed, or pounded onto the body, allowing the herbal mixture to penetrate the skin and provide therapeutic benefits.

It is a massage with medicinal powder or paste application with specific pressure in the Pratiloma direction. The lipolytic action of Udwarthanam coupled with sudation stimulates the hair follicles and enhances fat mobilization, thus causing the breakdown of subcutaneous fat. The most promising effect is the slimming of the body. This is in fact, a type of deep tissue massage that can be performed in both dry and wet manner using specific herbal powders. This procedure is known to reduce blood.

Administration of medicated liquids and powders via the nostrils is called nasyam. Medicated drops are instilled into both nostrils after forehead and sinus massage with a warm stream while inhaling.
MEDICATED LEAVES POULTICE SUDATION (ILA – KIZHI)
Patrapottali Swedanam is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that involves the application of heated herbal poultices to the body. These poultices are made by wrapping a combination of medicinal herbs in cloth and then heating them in selected specific medicated oils. The heated poultices are gently pressed or massaged onto the body, providing a therapeutic effect. Patrapottali Swedanam helps in treating the following:

In this, the herb-infused buttermilk is poured on the body/head, relaxing the mind. It gives a stable feeling in your mind indeed. The primary actions of this procedure are drying (rookshanam) and sudation (svedanam). It has multiple effects on dermatological, physiological, neurological, psychological & psychosomatic conditions.

Ksheera implies milk & Dhara implies a stream. It is one of the essential treatments of Kerala special therapies; ksheera-dhaara is an augmented form of siro-dhaara, wherein medicated milk is processed along with medicinal herbs and used to perform the dhaara, which can also be done for the whole body or for the head as per the requirement of the condition. It is very relaxing and considered an excellent therapy for pitta and vaata predominant conditions.
